Add copy/move to folder to Windows right-click menu
There's a registry hack for Windows that will let you add a Copy To Folder or Move To Folder to the right-click menu, which can be very useful when you want to move a file but don't have the other folder open already.
Download the zip file and double click on the registry files to add "Copy To Folder" and "Move To Folder" options to your right-click menu.
The registry files will work with Windows XP or Vista.
use the internet to help feed the hungry... for free!
and use this widget to remind you. it reminds you to open thehungersite.com (or similar site, see preferences) once a day. when you double click the widget www.thehungersite.com will open in your browser. then you can help feed the hungry simply by clicking on the displayed link (1 cup of staple food). the widget will then disappear for 24 hours and then remind you again.
i'm always extolling the virtues of rss feeds. if you still don't have an rss reader, feel free to install this one which conveniently comes with the feeds for my posts, photos, and links.
i have been using a couple of konfabulator widgets for a while now, yahoo weather and atomic clock. some of the others have a certain novelty value to them, like the meatwad widget that can dance or roll around your desktop and emit sound bites. but is this something i really want to keep on my desktop for more than a minute or two? no.
but i finally found one that is really cool. its called tint screen and it does what you'd think it would. you pick a color and then you can tint your screen by clicking the widget. and i guess thats nice if you want to view the web through rose colored glasses. but what i like about this widget is the ability to choose an image as your "tint." naturally i've chosen a hello kitty image.
i've never liked the effect when my desktop icons, widgets, or whatever covered up my choice of wallpaper, and using this widget as a wallpaper of sorts solves this problem. i've set the "tint opacity" very low so that everything on my desktop is still plainly visible and i can browse the web (and write this post) easily even though i am typing this while a huge hello kitty head is staring at me. (it is probably less distracting if you use a picture that is mostly white or light colored.)
here are some screen shots:
also, you can use an image as the widget (the little charmy kitty in the lower right of my desktop is actually the tint widget, i just click that to turn tint on or off) and another feature is that you can set this tint to activate like a screensaver and appear after you've been idle for a while.
a new project in the fight against AIDS taps into the unused power of individual and business computers to help research and identify drugs used to combat the HIV virus. FightAIDSatHome, aims to enlist about 100,000 computer users to donate the use of their machines when they would otherwise be idle.
its easy to do, 1) download the World Community Grid software to run FightAIDS@Home. it will run minimized in your system tray.

install it open internet explorer in a tab of firefox!
this is great for the occasional times when a page doesn't work correctly in firefox, downloading windows updates, or designing a web page - since you can easily see how your webpage displays in IE with just one click and then switch back to Firefox.
update: i just found out that you can also switch from firefox to ie by clicking the little firefox logo in the bottom right corner. then click the ie logo to switch back. sweet!
2 more updates:
1) after installing go to tools> extensions> then the options for ie tab. add http://www.microsoft.com/ and http://update.microsoft.com to always open in ie. now you can update windows with ease!
2) i submitted this story to digg.com and have well over 2000 diggs! there were some complaints that this extension is old, i don't know. the mozilla extension site said released octber 31st, 2005, but it may have only been updated then. at any rate, it seems many people did not know about it before.

If you feel tired of searching for programs in the long 'Start Menu' list, then this program is for you. It allows to arrange all shortcuts in the Start Menu into category folders. As a result, the menu looks neat, and you easily and quickly can find any program you want. For example, you can use a 'Games' folder, and when opening the Start Menu you thus will see a 'Games' folder, (instead of a list of the games) in which you will find the game you need.
a simple but useful little program
(note: you cannot create your own categories with the free version)
Super Mario Pac is a fusion between JetPac, a ZX Spectrum game by Ultimate who later became Rare, and Nintendo's Super Mario universe, taking selected graphics specifically from Super Mario World and themes and ideas from Super Mario Sunshine.
The game idea was inspired an image posted on videogames satire site UncleClive. It was featured as a game we will now never see due to Rare finishing their second party development agreement with Nintendo following a buyout by Microsoft.
